Living in Ohio for three years already, I couldn't believe when October came around again that we'd never been to the world famous Circleville Pumpkin Show. But, then I realized we'd missed it the two years previous because we were in Utah for Quentin and Sharisse's wedding and the next year for their sealing. So, I was determined that we would go this year. Saturday morning we went to the temple, so when the kids fell asleep on the way home from the Church where they were being watched, we figured it would be a great time to drive the 25 miles to the show. Eric and I took turns changing clothes and waiting in the car with the kids and we were off! We were thinking that since it was a game day that we would be okay going up in the afternoon. What we didn't know is that Saturday, being the last day of the pumpkin show, is SUPER busy in the afternoon and evening. We got stuck in traffic a few times on the way, and were stopped on the highway a few miles outside of Circleville. We ended up being in the car for 2 hours before we finally got into town. We were so glad the kids slept on the way up! I can't imagine what we would have done otherwise (well, yes I do--we would have turned around and gone home!!). When we finally found a parking spot, we loaded the kids up in the double stroller and toured the premises.
We tried some pumpkin fudge and pumpkin ice cream, and Eric got some deep fried veggies to try too. I peeked in te window at the bakery to see the 6 foot pumpking pie (but didn't want to wait in line for my pumpkin donut), and we saw the pumpkin tower.
We ran into our friends the McArthurs, so they took a family photo for us in front of the prize winning pumpkins.
Despite the crowds, leaking diapers, and cranky kids, we made it through the day and, I think, enjoyed the fall weather. :)
If we ever go again (I didn't get to try the pumpkin Buckeyes!), we won't go on a Saturday afternoon, and hopefully we'll get to do more. Thanks to the Fords and Beazers for keeping our hopes alive!
