Project Gratitude: Day 20

Have I listed chocolate as something I'm grateful for yet? I haven't?! Oh, boy--this is probably a first for me....

I am thankful for chocolate.

There. It's been officially documented for the year.

Despite my love affair with chocolate, I am very thankful that it is not the only thing I eat! I am thankful for food. I'm thankful that I've always had it; I've never had to go without. I'm thankful that I can cook, or at least that I can do it better than when I first got married and was afraid to cook because I didn't want the meal to disappoint my husband. I'm thankful that I've always had food to give my children. And I'm thankful for the variety of foods on the earth.

I always love when fall arrives and we begin baking in earnest and cooking up pots of soup to ward off chilly evenings. We've tried a few different things so far this fall, and it's all turned out delicious.

It seems that most of our traditions revolve around food. I may have mentioned before that my youngest sister was born on Halloween. As she was growing up and we were trying to do two celebrations in one day, we started the tradition of having people over for soup, breadsticks and birthday cake (or pie, since my sister doesn't love cake) before the kids would go trick-or-treating. I always think about that tradition during Halloween, and I long to be back home to spend it with my family one of these days. In the meantime, we have continued the tradition in our home. This year Eric wanted to make a rutabaga soup. He used Halloween cookie cutters to cut out the rolls, and we made an apple pie to top it off. It was sure a yummy night

Eric also got into the Halloween theme for another dinner.

Some of us had to turn off our imaginations as we ate, but it was fun.

I'm glad we always have a blessing on the food when we eat. It gives us the reminder, multiple times a day, of how blessed we are.
