Project Gratitude: Day 19
There is a special little spot in our house that always pulls me in when I pass it. It's just to the right of the kitchen sink, in front of the counter, with a side view out the window. It's particularly enticing when it's cold and my feet are bare: there is a vent just under the bottom cabinets and the floor is warm there, even if the warm air isn't blowing. I have loved looking out that window at the fall leaves as they've changed colors. I love looking out that window to watch the kids play on the deck or in the little playhouse at the edge of the yard. I watch Eric mow the lawn from that window, with Henrik at his heels (or playing in the dirt). I watch squirrels bury nuts and birds catch worms and seeds. And whether there are dirty dishes in the sink, or they are clean and piled up in the drainer to the side, I am happy to stand there and warm my feet, or my heart, whatever the case may be.
For Family Home Evening tonight we read the scripture in D&C 88:119 about having a house of order. Then we got into two teams and had a race cleaning the living room and the kitchen. The girls wanted to be on Eric's team to pick up, dust and vacuum the living room. So I got the boys on my team--I put Ollie in his bouncer and Henrik waved around the mop while I swept the kitchen floor. :) After I mopped, Eric and the girls were already done, but we decided to take the opportunity to polish the wood. The girls put a rag under each foot and glided from one end of the kitchen to the other. Now, with all that polish on the floor, we have a real skating rink in the kitchen....
Mierae got the cleaning bug after our little race. She went upstairs and cleaned her whole room after getting ready for bed. When she proudly displayed her hard work, she also smiled and said, "Mom, it's okay that you tricked me." That girl is so like me, in so many ways.
I am thankful for a warm home when it is cold out, and for a happy place for my family to make memories.
