Growing Up

The other day Mierae announced to me that she was getting ready to go to school. She was wearing one of her favorite dresses (she will ONLY wear dresses now), and found a tiny 0-3 month sweater that she had me help her put on, and her new purple hat. Then she looked all over for her "pack pack" and had me help her find it and put it on. Then she got her baby and said, "I'm going to school. See you later!"

She has the preparations and farewell down since she has to do it everyday with her Daddy.

This week's midweek activity was a toy swap with another ward at the Church. As I was digging through our toys to find the ones we don't play with anymore, I found a little toy piano that had been sitting in Mierae's room, and was therefore not played with (most of the toys stay in a bin in the living room). My first thought was to give it away since we don't play with it much, and we have a real piano to play on if the kids want to. But, then I decided to just bring it out with the rest of the toys and see if the kids would start playing with it again. This is what happened:

I love that Jolie was so excited about it! I was sorry I hadn't given her the opportunity to play with it before! Music is afterall very important in our family. The day after Jolie was playing with the little piano, Mierae started playing with it and singing to the pitches it plays. She likes to sing, but I don't think I've ever heard her try to match a pitch she hears. And she did it beautifully! We sang what the color of the key was in the pitch it played, and Mierae loved it. It is very special for me to see those musical inclinations in my children when at a very young age my parents saw them in me.

We have that same little piano and my kids go through phases where they really like it. We have also played that pitch matching "game," and I was surprised, too, at how good both kids were at it.

Robyn, your girls are adorable! How could you expect any less musical talent in a family with parents such as you and Eric? Oh, and I'm tagging you. Write 7 things about yourself (or your family) and then tag 7 more people. Good luck!
