Creative Play

I'm not sure what age the experts say children start playing make-believe, but Mierae is finally in the thick of it. She loves to pretend she's drinking out of an imaginary cup, and thoroughly enjoys serving me food from her new play kitchen.

She also loves to pretend that she is someone else. Mierae got "Peter Pan" for Christmas, so she has wanted to be Peter Pan lately. Eric or I will hold her up in the air, and she does the cutest little pose with her feet, and says, "Look! I'm Peter Pan!"

Last Sunday night while Eric was at Stake Priesthood Meeting I let Mierae watch the songs from "The Sound of Music" once Jolie had gone to bed. We usually watch the first half of the movie, and Mierae knows it VERY well. :) But, we rarely make it to the second half with the wedding and flight through the hills. Well, Mierae was GLUED to the TV during the wedding scene, and she wanted to watch it over and over. She came up to me and said, "Mommy, I want a wedding!" Well, it just so happened that Eric's mom sent us home from Virginia with some of the tricot the kids loved playing with, and there was a long white piece that I attached to Mierae's head. Then she said, "Mommy, I need flowers!" Well, I happen to own all of two silk flowers in the house, and they were in the closet where Jolie was sleeping. I told Mierae if she was quiet, that I would go get them. She must have really wanted them, because she can hardly ever stay quiet when I go in there. So, I got Mierae the flowers. Then she had to watch the scene over and over again with her new costume.

Eric came home right after that, and Mierae was very excited to tell her Daddy about her wedding. :) Eric got out our wedding album after that and showed her Mommy's "wedding" (dress). It was a sweet moment to see her look at those photos.

And here she is in the red dress from Aunt Sarah and cousin Mabel that she couldn't take off during Christmas break (of course in her "wedding" again). :)

The girls always look forward to the evenings when Eric comes home from school. Mommy doesn't do much rough-house play, but Daddy always gets in the thick of it at night. The other night Eric found a piece of cloth and tied it around his head and pretended to do Karate. He gave each of the girls a turn, helping Jolie karate chop her older sister. :)

It was very cute, but I was just a little upset that he was getting the girls all riled up minutes before we wanted them to go to sleep!!! Then the mean mommy ends all the fun. No wonder kids want Daddy when it's time to get ready for bed....

The next night Eric played before we started the bedtime routine. :) Going along with the theme of putting something on his head, he "hid" under a shirt and played peek-a-boo with Jolie. She was cracking up! So, Mommy got to join in the fun.

Jolie also loves it when we spit socks at her face. Don't ask me why, but she has the loudest and cutest giggles when we do it!

Mierae is really into bubble baths now too, and loves to "slide" down the back of the tub. She also loves to dump water on Jolie when Jolie is clinging to the side of the tub wanting to see what the fun is all about. Here Eric had some more fun while Mierae took her bath. :)

I love having a husband who is so involved and so good with his kids. Eric is the best Daddy. Thanks for all the creative play, hon, when I'm out of it by the time you come home. :)

I'm so glad Mierae likes her toy kitchen! And her "wedding" is very cute. :) I love Jolie's smiles, and Mierae's bath hair pic cracks me up! I love hearing all of your stories. We can't wait to see you in March!!

I love that The Sound of Music is one of Mierae's favorites. I don't think I even really loved it until a few years ago. Good job!
