Now, you may not be able to tell what that little green metal box is, but it's Bag Balm that Mierae wiped all over her face, lips and hands. Now, this really isn't that big a deal, but for those who have heard the Vaseline story, I wasn't wanting it to go any further.
A month or so ago I was trying and trying to get Mierae to go down for her nap, and she would not stay in her room (this was before the blessed days of switching the bathroom lock to her door and locking her in her room). I had to hold onto the door knob while she was trying to get out until she gave up and decided to play with something. I went about taking care of Jolie or eating lunch or something, and since I hadn't heard the closet door banging for a while, I decided to go and check on her. Well, she was actually trying to get out as I was trying to get in, but her hand kept slipping on the doorknob... I opened the door and there stood Mierae with Vaseline smeared all over her face, eyes, hair, clothes, and arms, and a previously completely full jar of Vaseline now emptied and clutched in her hand. I wish I had been in the frame of mind to get a picture, but I think all I did was scream, grab her and whisk her to the bathroom. I stripped her and put her in the tub before I saw the real damage. It wasn't such a big deal that her shirt was ruined, but when I looked in her room, I didn't even know what to do. There were globs of Vaseline all over the floor and on her bed, there were Vaseline handprints on the wall behind the door and Vaseline smeared on the door and all over the door knob. I had to tip toe in the clear spots just to get into the room, and then I tried as best I could to wipe up the greasy mess using a roll of paper towels. Of course Jolie was screaming in the living room, so I called my neighbor Shellee, and thankfully she and Deva came over and helped me out with Jolie until I got Mierae and her mess as cleaned up as much as I possibly could. Mierae's hair was greasy for at least three days after that, and whenever we walked in her room, we practically slid across the carpet. But, yes, I can now look back at it and laugh. But, I don't keep full jars of Vaseline in there anymore. :)
As Eric was showing Mierae the pictures on the camera tonight, he showed her the shots of her with Bag Balm all over and asked her, "What's that?" Mierae replied, "a turkey!" I couldn't have put it better myself!

Oh, that's terrible!!!! I'm so sorry!! I feel your pain! Reminds me of the time that Josh and Claire were really quiet for a long time (this was in our house in PA, before Andrew)...and I walked into the room to find everything (including all of Claire, the door, the crib, and all that beautiful new carpet...)smeared down with Desitin and eczema cream. I think Claire ate some, but I've never been sure. I cried.
But, you must admit, there are worse things! It could have been the contents of a diaper instead!! :D
