It was another snow day today. The kids had Friday off, as well as Monday for President's Day, so I was worried about all the kids being inside all day again. Eric's morning classes were cancelled, so he didn't need to go into work until noon. It's so nice having him around!
They all had a great time with Andrew and Abby when Andrew came for his
flute lesson. It's so sweet how the Johns boys play with my kids. Jolie
adores Andrew (as does Mierae) and Henrik and Tyler are great buddies
as well.
Today ended up being a great day. I was very, very impressed at how helpful both Mierae and Jolie were today. At one point in the day I had Henrik in the tub and needed to leave to get a turkey breast in the oven. Mierae checked on Henrik for me...but then she also washed him, got his diaper on, and got him dressed! She was so helpful and happy and had such a great attitude! I just couldn't believe it. It was wonderful. Jolie also offered to help with whatever I needed. She played with Oliver and took care of some things for me when I was busy. When Eric got home later after his evening class I openly praised the girls for all their help. Later on Eric was talking to Mierae alone and discovered that Mierae's attitude had to do with her reading the illustrated Book of Mormon the previous two nights. (We usually just read verses from the actual scriptures, but Sunday night the thought came to my mind that we should read the story of Enos, which we had been reading, from the illustrated storybook instead.) Mierae told Eric that after reading the Book of Mormon stories she wanted so much to go to the Celestial kingdom and decided to do the things that she should in order to be worthy of that. Wow. I was floored. It was just another testimony that the word of God is more powerful than a two-edged sword...that the study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior.
