We managed to get in on some fun events this Halloween and take home enough candy to last us for weeks to come! Here are some smiles from our fun.
We went to the Stark Parks family night and went on a super fun hayride
in the moonlight, went on a lantern-lit creature walk, made mini
jack-o-lanterns, and finished off the night with treats. (Bad phone pic
with closed eyes from the flash, but we documented the moment!)
We had so much fun at the first hayride, we decided to go to the community's free Haunted Hayride as well.
It was advertised as being fun for all ages...but it sure wasn't what we
were expecting! After the first "haunt," the kids were scared out of
their wits and begging to get off! I don't think we'll be attending this
one again for several years to come! We went home and had hot chocolate and played games to help the kids stave off the nightmares.
The boys and I enjoyed a fun playdate with friends where we ate soup and "mummified" hot dogs, and we decorated Halloween sugar cookies. Playdates are the best!
I picked up a very happy girl from school one afternoon holding her prize ribbon in one hand, and her pumpkin-turned-turkey in the other. It was quite the late, stressful night getting that pumpkin decorated, but it was worth it in the end!
We had a special storytime at Once Upon A Child where the kids could wear their costumes, and then they went trick-or-treating around the store. There was another party there on the weekend and the kids got to play games and do crafts, get their faces painted, and eat more candy!
We had a really fun time at a birthday turned Halloween party. The kids ate donuts on a string, ran flour sack races, decorated cupcakes, and even did a jack-o-lantern pinata....
...all while Oliver hung out in the fireplace. :)
And of course we made it to the trunk-or-treat at church. Eric had been preparing a mummy costume for a while, and then it just wasn't working out. So he threw on some work-out clothes and went as a runner. My costume was thrown together last-minute as well, but I really was dressed up as someone (a French woman) :) even though it looked like I was just "dressed up." :)
Oliver received his adorable costume from Grandma Taylor for his birthday, so we were trying to plan out a theme with him. Hence Jolie is the princess who is supposed to be rescued from the dragon by her knight in shining armor...who refused to wear the knight costume and wanted to be a superhero instead. :) But he kept that cape on all night long! Mierae had been reading "The Daring Book for Girls" and learned all about how to be a spy. So we threw together her costume the week before when we did the Halloween party at the store.
Halloween night we left the dentist's office (oh the irony!) to go eat dinner at IHOP where they were giving kids free scary face pancakes.
That night was also Boo U at Kent State, but it was raining and the event was held outdoors. Eric felt like he needed to go see if he could help out still, and Jolie was the brave one who didn't mind getting wet for more candy! So the two of them went while I took Mierae and the boys home. We watched Wild Kratts and hung out until Eric and Jolie returned with a huge bag of candy that they graciously shared with everyone.
As always, it was a sweet holiday!

Wow, you had quite the number of Halloween festivities! And great pics, as always! Ethan and Julia wouldn't hang around for two seconds for me to get a picture, so we have pictures of just Chase.
Love the costumes :)
