I love my husband. A lot. Like, really, a lot.
We're getting down to the last days now before we leave for Utah and basically leave our Columbus years behind us. There are boxes all over the house; most of the kitchen is packed up, and the suitcases are full. Mierae's last day of school was yesterday. Eric was so sweet today to take each of the girls out with their friends for one last playdate. He took Mierae and Leah to McDonald's for happy meals and ice cream cones and an hour at the playland. Then he came home and swapped Leah and Mierae for Emma, Emi and Jolie. They played at Graeter's and shared a pint of cookie dough ice cream. Both girls loved their afternoon out and were so happy when they got home. It was so nice to have them content and kind when they were home together this afternoon. Mierae was a great help with Henrik. When he woke up from his nap, she was happy to get him out of his bed, carry him downstairs, and entertain and feed him. She really is good with him, and loves to spend time with and entertain him. One afternoon she even put him down for a nap for me. She followed all my instructions perfectly, and he went right to sleep.
On Tuesday this week Eric went to help out at field day at Winterset. Then on Wednesday I took Jolie and Henrik to the awards assembly in the morning. Mierae got two ribbons--one for excellent attendance, the other for the effort honor roll. But despite getting those two awards, Eric said she came home and cried for 45 minutes about not getting a trophy (awarded to those who were Winterset Winners all four quarters; Mierae was for three). :( Eric tried to focus on the awards she did receive, and have her think about all the progress she's made at school this year. She has improved SO much with her handwriting. She has done so well at math, even though it's been frustrating to her. And her level of reading was the highest of a 2nd grader at the end of her 1st grade year. Mierae has struggled with homework this year, but has always done really well with her spelling, and math concepts have come fairly quickly for her. But despite all her success this year, she didn't get a trophy, and she was crushed. When I got home from my last day of teaching flute, Eric said he gave the girls melatonin after a horrible, horrible afternoon so that they could fall asleep quickly. After Eric went to bed at 10:30, I was still up reading "The Ensign" on the couch. Mierae woke up and came downstairs to join me on the couch. She was holding her two ribbons in her hand, and the first words out of her mouth were about not receiving a trophy at school. :( After some more soothing and explanation, she had something to eat and we finally went back upstairs to bed. Jolie had crawled into bed with Eric earlier, so I just stayed with Mierae.
