Hello.
My name is Robyn.
I'm a mother, who gets angry.
I have a daughter who gets angry too.
We're working on our anger management. The other night when Mierae was upset about something, I told her to write down or draw a picture of what was making her so mad. It calmed her down enough that she could talk about it after that.
The next night when she was angry again, she went upstairs for a few minutes and then came back down and handed me a small piece of paper.
I was so impressed that she had used what she learned the night before to try to contain her anger.
But of course it isn't always like that.
There was one night that Mierae was a grump starting the moment she walked in the door after school. She was hungry, and tired from not going to bed the night before. At one point she got so upset that she took a pair of scissors that happened to be left out from the night before, and she cut her hair. She was so angry that she cut her hair!
I still can't believe she did it!
Jolie tattled on her by bringing down the cut locks to show us.
And that made Mierae even more angry.
When we talked about it, Mierae tried to justify her behavior by saying she wanted to cut her hair short anyway (of course). Here's what it looked like in front:
We decided to go ahead and take her to a salon to try to repair the damage. She wanted her hair cut all the way up to her ears, but I made her promise to follow the advice of the stylist if it was suggested she leave it longer. Here's what she came home with:
It made me sad to see it so short at first. But by the next day, I thought it looked cute.
We're still working on our anger management. Hopefully we can continue in the right direction. Mierae doesn't have much more hair to lose!

She is one pretty girl!! And her mama is too!!!!
Good luck...I think all of us with little toddlers (and perhaps teenagers too) are working on anger managment too. hahaha
I just cut deva's hair all of to her ears to even out/blend in a part she cut off herself. it was in the back right up to her scalp. BUt her hair looks cute and so does mieraes. DEva gets really angry too. Sometimes it's hard to know what to do. We put Deva back in half day kindergarten and she has been behaving so much better. It's better for me too to just be her mom and not her teacher. Hope you guys are well.
OH man!! That is kind of funny yet sad at the same time! I like the short hair but if Cloey ever did that.... ooooh....
Good luck with the anger management. I love the idea of writing or drawing her emotions. What a great idea!!
Allie has a hard time talking about any emotions. She just shuts down and covers her ears and says, "I don't want to talk about it." We're still trying to figure out what works for her. I don't want to get to a teenage phase and have this still going on, only magnified!
Oh, Robyn, I feel your pain. When Amanda was just a toddler she would pull her own hair when she got angry. Since that time anger management has continued to contribute to hair loss, however, the hair loss has been mine :) Don't worry, things will get better in 20 years or so.
Oh, my word...are you kidding me!?!! She must have been really mad! :) Although, I must admit that I love cute little bobs on cute little girls. So chic with the side swept bangs and all.
So I just got back from Utah. I am staring at your gift as I type this. I'll email you next week when I feel more recovered so we can find a time to come see you and drop it off.
Aaaaah, I hate it when they cut their own hair!!! But her new do looks super cute. :)
