I should have knocked on wood.
Just before school started, Mierae and Jolie were doing an art project with scissors. Eric stepped away for less than a minute, and when he came back, locks of beautiful golden hair were lying on the living room carpet: Mierae had finally done it--cut off her little sister's hair. It isn't quite as bad when they cut their own hair (Mierae pretended to be Mulan a few years ago and tried to cut her hair like Mulan does with a sword). But when a child cuts her sibling's hair, it's somehow a different story.
We'd been talking about trimming the girls' hair for a while, but neither of them wanted to. And I wasn't going to force it on them. Mierae apparently decided spur of the moment that Jolie should be ready. It was the night before we took family pictures.
Then Mierae decided she wanted in on the attention and cut her own hair. Right in the front. (But thankfully, not as short and awful as it could have been.)
So both girls got their hair cut (after we took family pictures--I kept their hair back in bows or headbands as best I could for the photo shoot).
Jolie's hair sorely needed to be trimmed anyway--we had never cut it! (Although it hurts my heart to see how beautiful her long locks were.) I didn't want to cut Mierae's hair ALL off, so she has some "layers" in the front that will hopefully hurry up and grow long enough to tuck behind her ear. I was hoping Mierae's wouldn't have to be cut for a while. But, now they have matching haircuts, and I have to admit that they do look pretty cute.
Now the hard part is waiting patiently for it to grow again.
It's going to take a while: Jolie took the scissors to her hair again last weekend.

Oh no!! That awful! Little girls do look cute with short hair though I must agree!!
My boys had no choice a couple of weeks ago. Tyler almost buzzed their heads while Jacob sat there kicking and screaming and I kicked and screamed while Tyler shaved off all of John's curls WITHOUT permission!! I know it will grow back (hopefully) but I loved my curly head little boy.
I'm trying to convince Magei that she needs a hair cut. She wants it to her elbows, but it just looks so stingy all the time! We have a scissor story, too. Of course it was Sam. I walked into my bedroom one night to find that he had cut the straps on several pairs of my shoes. I really love my shoes. I totally cried. They were big tears, too.
I'm surprised that I never tried cutting my hair when I was little, since I have always liked playing with it. I think I cut hair on some of my barbies though.
I'm glad that the damage wasn't that bad! They look just as cute as ever!
Man those scissors are tempting for little ones. Just over a year ago Julia cut her EYELASHES!! (Thank goodness she didn't injure her eye!) And she's old enough to know better!
Well their hair does look very cute still. Derek's mom talked me into Julia's hair getting a little trim when she was little, her first haircut, and her hair has been bone straight ever since. (Do you remember how curly it was when she was little?) Oh well...
oh my goodness! I am chuckling to myself while reading this- I KNOW Ellie will do that several times too. Glad it was just in the back and fixable! My lil sis cut her bangs probably 4 different times.
Love you Robyn!
Sheesh. The haircuts. I'll never forget the first time Josh cut ALL of Claire's hair off for her. Nice. And since then? Claire cuts her bangs about every 3-4 months. SHORT. Just last week she did it again. If you see any pics of her, you'll see her funny haircut. I keep telling her I should give her hair a trim, but she refuses to let me. Instead, she cuts off ALL the front of her hair. *sigh* Gotta love scissors.
