Independence Day 2010

We were so excited to be in Columbus for the 4th of July this year. We missed the festivities when we were in Washington last summer (even though we thoroughly enjoyed being with extended family then). There's just something about traditions at home.

The kids fought us going to bed (Hmmm, have you heard me say this before?) on Friday night, not settling down until after 11:00. So, we weren't up bright and early for the Upper Arlington parade. But, we did make it to most of it, sitting in our usual spot at the end of the parade. The girls LOVED it, so I'm glad we went, even if they weren't excited about it before we got there

After the parade we went swimming at the RPAC on campus. The water felt warmer than it usually does, and we had a great time playing together. After an indoor picnic, the girls watched a movie downstairs while Eric and I started "Avatar" upstairs. Needless to say, we didn't finish our movie before the kids jumped onto our bed and wanted to watch it with us. (We ended up finishing it super late that night after the fireworks, just because we weren't going to wait to see the end!)

It was already time to get ready to stake out our spot for the fireworks, so we got another picnic ready and headed out again. Of course Jolie finally decided to take a nap on the way to the park at 6:30. At least we were staying up late anyway!

We met our good friends at the park, and were so glad they decided to come up to Upper Arlington for the 4th, even though they'd just moved down to Grove City. They were awesome to bring all the entertainment for the night: snaps, sparklers, exploding confetti, glow necklaces.... Our kids loved it!

The kids were able to run and play on the grass and wrestle with the boys. :) We loved sitting and talking and enjoying the shade (there was not a cloud in the sky the whole day).

The fireworks show was awesome! I loved hearing Mierae ooh and ahh over the colors and formations of the fireworks while she was nestled in between two friends on the picnic blanket. It was such a great way to end the day's celebration.

On Sunday at Church the whole reason for the holiday was put into perspective as so many people shared their feelings about our country during Fast and Testimony meeting. I'm so proud to be an American.

How fun, I can't believe how big they're getting!!
We went over to our neighbor's house to do fireworks and Chase started screaming during a loud one, it scared him to death. I ended up taking him in before it was over, lol.
