We found a better spot to put the plants in the house, hoping they would get more sun, and would occasionally take them outside. I knew we needed to re-pot them from their little paper cups, but we didn't get around to getting potting soil forever, and then got a bad bag. In the meantime, one of the plants was just shooting up. Mierae got so excited about it, but when I asked my friend for help with our gardening adventure, she said the plant was reaching for the sun. Oops. Oh, and she told me that once the plant was getting blossoms, we needed to get it outside so it could be pollenated by the bees. Oh, right. Of course it does! (You'd think I'd know more about gardening since we usually had a garden when I was growing up! But, I guess I really didn't help much! Sorry, Mom. All those summer mornings I slept in instead of getting up to weed....)
Well, Eric finally got around to re-potting the plants and putting them outside, and then they were pounded in a rainstorm. The tall plant's stem got bent, and we thought it had died. Eric tried to prop it up with sticks, and then plastic forks, but we thought it was gone. Just a few days later though, we were surprised to find that each plant had two green beans growing on it. We were so excited! It was hard to wait until the perfect time to pick them; Mierae couldn't resist! So after she picked one green bean, I had to take a picture of our beloved green bean plants and the fruits of our labor.
Lucky for us, our kids LOVE green beans. (Personally, I hated them when I was a kid!)
After enjoying the spoils that afternoon, the girls then proceeded to throw leftover potting soil at the back door and got it all over the patio. Not my favorite day. Another reason why being a mom is hard: I HATE messes!

hooray for green beans! Glad they didn't keel over after all!
and hey, do you want to add a cilantro pot to your backyard bootie? I've got extras...
Wow, those green bean plants are huge. It's always so fun for the kids to see how a seed can turn into a plant!!
awesome! they are probably the only kids that actually took care of their bean plant from the activity. how exciting, i'm glad they got to enjoy it.
How fun. I'm going to have to try this with the girls. Love it. And yes, it is such hard work to be a mom. I'm SO exhausted at the end of each day. And I am fine with controlled messes but when they all go crazy on me and just start making crazy messes I HATE IT TOO!!!
I'm with you! I have a really hard time letting Daphne feed herself cause she makes such a mess and I don't love that. So fun that they grew their own plants though! I bet they were excited! That's so good they love veggies too! You'll have to share your secret with me on how you get them to love them so I can make sure Daphne loves them too. :)
