Eric's a geek
The other day I was pondering the purpose of buying granola bars. Yes, they are tasty and I love them, but are they really worth the money? So I then questioned what real nutritional benefit they give over chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and whether they have more or less sugar and fat and so forth. I didn't have any oatmeal cookies on hand, so I took a Nature Valley cashew sweet and salty granola bar and placed it on one end of a 12 inch ruler and on the other end I put two chocolate chip cookies. Then I put the ruler on my kids' dough roller (I just forgot the word for those!) and they were the same weight. I did all this because I don't have a scale. In the end Robyn and I figured that two cookies have about 8 grams of sugar compared to my granola bar, which has 12 grams. So, if you add some oatmeal to those, why not just skip the more expensive granola bar and bake up some great cookies (freeze them and then you can take two for your snack anytime). So, next time you think that eating a cookie is bad for you, just remember that it might actually be just as bad to eat a granola bar. We aren't concerning ourselves with fat, of course. That's another matter entirely. Cookies, anyone?

Sounds good to me!
I think that's a great idea. Cookies are even fun to make, so that works out perfectly.
ha!! That is pretty funny. not surprising at all. I guess we shouldn't consider granola bars as snacks, but as a dessert!
I agree 100%. Cookies are also all natural with no preservatives- another plus.
Ha! I think we've done something along these lines once or twice... :) Love the scientific evidence! I'm going to quote you to friends!
Glad to see I am not the only person who thinks about these things!:)
Love the picture in your header. The girls are too adorable!
Gustav Holst's "The Planets" would be #1 on my list. I am going to have to check out a few of the others I don't recognize. Thanks for the list!
