Fate?
"'Is everything just chance or are some things meant to be?' 'You cannot leave everything to fate, boy. She's got a lot to do! Sometimes you must give her a hand.'"
Destiny?
"Destiny is something we've invented because we can't stand the fact that everything that happens is accidental."
Luck?
Well, whatever it is you believe in, this seems to have been a week for luck--good and bad.
After I had already gotten dressed on Tuesday (the 17th), Eric reminded me what day it was. I had to hurry and change into something green so I didn't get pinched! Mierae and Jolie were sporting some green spring dresses that had just been pulled out of storage. It was fun to get into the holiday spirit! :)
We were "lucky" enough to have a playdate scheduled for that afternoon, and the girls enjoyed a movie, dress-ups, jumping on the trampoline, and My Little Pony toys. I was "lucky" that both girls fell asleep on the way home and that it was such a beautiful day. Mierae also literally got the luck of the draw as we found out that afternoon she won the lottery to get into a gymnastics class at Whetstone!
To celebrate the Irish holiday we had mixed greens with cilantro-lime dressing and Irish beef hand pies (beef, cabbage and potato filling) for dinner.
Wednesday I finished teaching my regular students, as well as doing a make-up lesson, and came home to a hot plate of spaghetti carbonara before I dashed out the door again to go to quilt club. I was lucky to catch the group still finishing up the monthly spotlight, and then have refreshments and chatting time.
Thursday afternoon I had a rehearsal for an upcoming recital. I was lucky that the accompanist for a duet I'm playing in said she would also accompany me on a solo I'm doing. This is getting exciting! (I'll keep you posted about the date so hopefully some of you can attend.)
But then our luck seemed to change. Thursday night as Eric was bringing the girls home from the library, Jolie threw up in the van. Once everything had been cleaned up, she threw up again. We got a little smarter after the second round and kept a bowl near her, jumping every time we heard a cough. When there was nothing left in her, she sat limp on Eric's lap until she fell asleep around 10:00. But the vomiting didn't stop. Eric and I ended up sleeping in the living room with her, waking at least once every hour, and sometimes every 10 minutes, for her to throw up. She finally stopped vomiting on Friday afternoon. Luckily for us, Eric had not yet left for his trip to New Orleans. And lucky for me, he decided he would stay home instead of leaving me with such a sick toddler and energetic preschooler to take care of alone! He even made the chili we had been planning on for the Ward's Chili Chocolate Cook-off and took Mierae with him to the church that night. As luck would have it, he came home with the "Best Nontraditional Chili" award in one hand and a $10 Chilis gift card in the other. And lucky for us, we had an evening to spend together while Mierae and Jolie were sleeping.
Saturday we were lucky enough to both get to go to the temple. Sure wouldn't have happened if Eric had been in Louisiana! But, Jolie's luck took a turn for the worse and instead of the vomiting, she had several bouts of diarrhea and a fever. After two baths in two hours, she then threw up all over herself, as well as me, and ended up in the tub for a third time that afternoon. That poor girl!! This is all she's done the last two days.
She was so weak from not keeping anything down, she didn't even have the energy to talk. When we asked her if she was okay and she would just shake her head.
Today Eric attended a sacrament meeting early so that I could go to church with Mierae. (I had to go to our ward because I taught the RS lesson.) It was lucky that Mierae stayed awake on the way home from church without Jolie in the van--she goes to bed so well when she doesn't fall asleep during the day! Eric and Jolie were sitting on the porch waiting for us when we got home. And Jolie was doing so much better! Her fever was down, she'd kept some food down, stayed hydrated, and was even talking again. I'm so grateful she's doing better!! She even had the energy to play with beads as Daddy was fixing a broken necklace tonight.
Even though being sick is so hard, I'm thankful for these times so I can better appreciate good health! But after doing so many loads of laundry because of Jolie's sickness this weekend, we cannot wait until we have our own washer and dryer!!

Man, I'm glad she is feeling better and that Eric was there to help! I have a hard time with throw up. I think I have done way too much of it myself during my pregnancies to be able to handle it well. She looked so sad!
Wow Robyn!! What a week. I look to you as an example of always finding the positive in situations and what you can get out of life's weird ways of teaching you things.
I hope Jolie is better this week and gives you a chance to take a breath, play catch up and get on with a normal life.
Jolie's sickness sounds absolutely AWFUL!!! I'm so sorry! For your whole famly. That's rough. I'm glad to hear she's feeling a lil better. Hopefully Mierae doesn't get it. I guess if she was going to she already would have. Not that we can REALLY do much, but let me know if you need to do a load of laundry over here or something.
Oh, sick weeks are so hard!!! I hope she's feeling better!
Poor girl! It looks like she was miserable. :( I'm glad she's doing a little better now!
Yuck!! I hate the flu. I can't imagine not having your own washer and dryer. Hopefully, you are feeling better.
That just makes me want to cry for her! It's just miserable being so sick! I'm glad that she's feeling better now! I hope it continues that way! And hopefully none of the rest of you catch it...
I'm so sorry Robyn! Sick kids are the hardest and saddest thing ever. Way to hang in there. I'm glad you're on the other side of it now!
