Now, I LOVE Saturdays. Saturdays are family days. Saturdays are when Eric is home and we go out and do fun things with the kids. Saturdays are relaxing. And now Saturday nights are fun because Eric and I can be together, and the next day is another day we can all be together as a family.
The last few months of Saturdays have always brought something fun, and usually something new. We did our raspberry picking on a Saturday, we went to the beach at Alum Creek on a Saturday, and in August we made a visit to one of our favorite places, Young's Jersey Dairy, on a Saturday.
Today our Saturday adventure was going apple picking!!! We found Granville Orchard two years ago. We couldn't go last year because a frost destroyed the apple crop (though we were able to pick apples that fall in Utah at Capitol Reef). So, we were excited to go again, and have Jolie get her first taste of Ohio apple picking.
There were several varieties available to pick. We started with Winesap.
The girls decided once they'd picked those, they were ready to sit down and enjoy them right then!
We made our way through the whole orchard and also picked some wonderful Golden Delicious, Jonathan, Cortland, and Eric's favorite, Mutsu.
This gorgeous fall scene met us as we were winding through the trees.
We came away with over 20 lbs of apples for $8. They take about a fourth of our refrigerator. Now, the fun really begins!! Rustic apple tart, or Dutch apple pie, anyone?
Another Saturday adventure was two weeks ago. The girls and I decided it was time to take Eric back to the zoo. It was the Fall Fest, and Eric hadn't been to the zoo since last Christmas. The girls were sporting their new sunglasses (one of our many Target clearance finds).
We were met by tables full of small pumpkins for the kids to decorate. Both girls showed no hesitation to walk right up, snatch their special pumpkins, and draw as many colors as they could on them.
They were very proud of their creations!
At this zoo visit we did things that we don't usually do on our other visits. We went to the indoor animal exhibit in Asia Quest to see the longest snake in the world and watch the bats. Then we went over to North America to comb and pet the goats. This is always a favorite, but even more special this time. Because of the Fall Fest, they had a special "Bobbing for Apples" activity for the goats. The girls were nearly mauled over if they were in the way as the goats made a run for each bucket of apples. Jolie's favorite thing was reaching into the buckets, taking out the apples, and then feeing them to the goats herself! She couldn't get enough of it, and I think we were in that goat pen for nearly an hour! (And of course, my batteries had died, so I didn't get it on camera!) After that we went to a special animal show. We saw owls, an anteater, porcupine, hawk, snake and alligator. After the show, the girls got to go up front and see the small owl up close, and pet the alligator (don't worry, it was a baby) and the snake. Mierae still remembers "two fingers, going down" as the right way to pet the snake and tells me how to pet the snake puppet at the library. :) It was a very, very fun day at the zoo.
Here's to more special Saturdays, and adventures yet to become fond memories.

The apple picking reminded me that my family used to do that every fall on Conference weekend. I don't know why it stopped, but I do remember the fun we had together.
OK, I'm really jealous! Especially since I just spent another Saturday without Nate. :)
I've got to get to that orchard...that is awesome!
What fun Saturdays! I too love getting apples at the orchards. 20 lbs for $8? Holy Cow.
{I LOVE your red glasses}.
That last picture is so cute!
ps...my blogging worlds are colliding! I stalk Christa's blog...there's a few of us that have a stalking club thanks to Seriously, So Blessed. Now I see that you guys are related? Small world! :)
pps...Cectpa Hendricksen, I was talking about mission experiences with a friend until 2:30 am tonight! We had some crazy good times back in the day...has it really been 6 years??????
Oh, apples!! Fresh apples!! All our apples are flown in either from South Africa or France. I will be happy to see real apples again...and brocolli, and any type of berry, and spinach, and...well, you get the idea. That looks like so much fun, though!! You guys do such a good job finding fun things to do together! :) We need to plan some super fun things to do while we're all together in Utah! Maybe a trip to Park City? Sadly, I've never ever been there! Too bad the cabin isn't an option anymore...
It looks like you guys had tons of fun, and the girls look ADORABLE!!! And yeah, we are feeling MUCH better, thanks for asking!
I can't wait for Saturday's, that's our family day as well. Love the picture of Jolie feeding the goat and Mierae eating the ice cream. Hope all is well
You do so many fun things! I should make my life a little more interesting and find things like that to do, too. :)
Great times! You need to go to the Santa Maria replica either as a family or as part of finding hidden gems with Kim AND Laurie. Tyler liked it a lot.
Looks like so much fun! I love Saturdays too cause I actually get to spend more than just an hour or two with Andrew. What a great family day! Looks like there are tons of fun things for you guys to do there! I love the picture of Mierae with Eric at the end of your apple picking adventure. Looks like she's flirting with someone. :) As always, you have the cutest pictures! I guess you can't help it when you have such a good-looking family, right? ;)
Oh, I love fall! Okay, so I never new about the dairy farm or the topiary gardens in my 4 years that I lived there. I can't believe all that you are discovering. Ohio is such a great place! We miss it! Your girls are so beautiful! I love Saturdays too and make a special effort to get all the household chores done early on in the week so we can play all day too! Love it!
