Memorable Memorial

This Memorial Day weekend was the busiest I can remember, but also one of the nicest, and I'm not just talking about the gorgeous weather we've been having (although that was certainly one of the highlights)!

The biggest part of the weekend was the annual Memorial Day breakfast for our ward. It was Eric's and my last big hurrah being Activities Committee chairpersons; yes, Eric has already moved on to bigger and better things such as the Elders Quorum Presidency. (I am quite content with my just having one calling as Relief Society pianist now, but you never know in this ward....) Eric did almost all the work for this breakfast. At least I can say I watched the kids while he was busy! To pass the time while he shopped for the breakfast groceries at Costco, the girls and I spent the evening with Chris, Shellee and Deva. Mierae and Deva enjoyed dressing up, playing in the sandbox, and playing with pebbles underneath the trampoline.

Jolie had fun too. Daddy played soccer with her when he got back.

The actual breakfast went really well. We had a great committee and there were lots of volunteers from the ward to donate time and supplies for the breakfast to take place. I'm glad our ward has that tradition. We really had a great time. Mierae played on the playground almost the whole morning. I think she and Jolie maybe ate a total of one pancake combined, but it wasn't about the food for them! We were too busy to take any pictures. I think it took me 45 minutes to actually finish my breakfast with multiple interruptions. The night before was a restless night for all of us, and after all of us ending up sleeping in the living room, 6:30 am Saturday came quickly, and it didn't take long on the way home for the girls to get all tired out.

Surrounding the big breakfast, we also had some other great activities. Saturday morning we went downtown to the Battelle Riverfront Park, also known as the Storybook Park. We got to see the replica ship of the Santa Maria from when Columbus sailed to the Americas (we'll hopefully do the tour on Columbus Day this year):

And we visited the statues in the "storybook" part.

It was such a nice morning. It is always fun to go downtown, but especially nice when it's a Saturday morning and there isn't any traffic!

Sunday afternoon we were with our friends Jeremy and April where they were house-sitting. I put Jolie down for her nap there right after Church, and April was so nice to play with Mierae so Eric and I could also rest for a little while. Thanks, April!

We had a fun dinner out on the deck with some other couples, and Mierae got her first taste of marshmallow roasting, and thoroughly enjoyed the treat that came along with it!

Mierae always likes to be like the grown-ups.

Isn't Jolie getting to be such a big girl?

Both girls LOVED these little dogs. Jolie could not stop squealing over them and trying to pet them.

Monday evening we met up with some other good friends. Mierae loves playing in the Roberts' backyard with her friends, and we love sitting at the patio table chatting while the kids play. Jolie decided to finish off the other kids' food when they had gone to play.

We made some homemade Vanilla Pudding ice cream that the kids seemed to enjoy.

But the table was obviously more tasty.

It was the first time I'd met Ryan and Kim's #3. Isn't he so sweet?

And we all got a kick out of Tyler's pink mustache.

It was nice to be outside yet again with the perfect temperatures. I'm sure we'll remember this Memorial Day weekend for years to come!
