Seven Steps on the way to Eternity

A little while ago, a friend tagged me to write seven things about myself. Since I never got to it, I decided to combine a little "How You Met" survey with the seven things about me. So, here are seven details about how Eric and Robyn became the Taylors.

1. Where did you meet?

Eric and I met in the 2nd Grade at Orem Elementary in Mrs. Jessop's class. Eric didn't remember me (the nerve of some 7-year olds!), but all I actually remembered about him was that he went to Alaska every summer (to visit his Dad). Our friendship blossomed in high school when we sat next to each other in orchestra junior and senior years (hence, oboe/flute duo!).

2. What was your first date?

Our first official date was when I asked him to Morp, the last dance of our senior year. Eric had actually been wanting to ask me to Prom that year, but I went with my boyfriend. :) So, feeling bad that he had wanted to ask me out, and being such good friends, I took him out first. (Sorry Mom, I know you hate this photo!)

3. Where was your first kiss?

After I got home from my mission, Eric still had a week left in Austria on his Study Abroad. So, it was a week and two days after I got home. :) We had spent the evening eating a pint of Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby while walking around his neighborhood. When he brought me home and we were standing on the porch, he asked me if I'd seen the movie, "Never Been Kissed." I knew where this was going, so even though I HAD seen the movie, I decided to play along and say no. So, he all of a sudden pulls me off the porch back to his car and tells me the story of the ending of the movie at the baseball field. He drove to our Elementary school baseball diamonds, and with impeccable timing with telling the story of the movie, kissed me on the pitcher's mound.

4. Did you have a long or short courtship/engagement?

We didn't really start "dating" until the three months after Eric got home from his mission, which just happened to be the three months before I left on mine. He wrote me while I was gone, but wasn't "waiting" for me. But, the sparks had started flying before I left, so when I got home, we were back together very quickly. But we didn't get engaged until the next April, and we weren't really officially engaged until June (that's when I got the ring, after my Study Abroad in France). So, it was a year after I got home from my mission when we got married.

5. Where did you get engaged?

Well, we were "engaged" before Eric officially got down on one knee. One day while in the BYU library, Eric told me his mom said he'd better get a temple date before all the times were taken for the summer. So, right then and there, on a library phone, we called the temple and scheduled a day! Eric wanted to propose at my senior flute recital and have the ring in my flute case, but my parents didn't want me to get engaged before I went on my Study Abroad. When I got back from France, Eric and I were having "practice" engagement photos taken by his sister Sarah in Battlecreek Canyon (where Eric had done some Geology work that year). I was wearing a ring I bought at a flea market in Chartres, France, so after the first few photos, Eric said he had to get something and popped out the ring saying, "I think you need a new ring!" He pulled the the-ring-isn't-ready-yet trick on me that day. I was very surprised! Here we are right after he proposed (and I saw the ring he'd designed for the first time).

6. Where were you married?

We got married August 16, 2003 in the Mount Timpanogos temple. We had both volunteered during the temple's open house and took part in the dedication. So, it was special to us from our youth.

7. Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We stayed pretty close to home. The first two nights we stayed at my aunts' cabin at Sundance and spent some time in Park City. Then we went to Cedar City for the Shakespearean Festival. Our last night we wanted to go camping, but the place we were planning on staying was closed, so we drove all the way back home and went to a late showing of "Pirates of the Caribbean" and then slept on Eric's mom's trampoline. :)

Our honeymoon was the happiest time in my life. I just felt so lucky and so blessed. And even though every day isn't the bliss of our honeymoon, our love has deepened so much that I wonder how we really knew we loved each other back then. Eric, I can't wait for the rest of eternity since I get to spend it all with you.
